It kills bacteria by preventing them from making proteins and other chemicals that keep them alive.Augmentin (Amoxicillin / Clavulanate) is a combination antibiotic. Amoxicillin kills bacteria and prevents them from reproducing and making their own protective covering. Clavulanate stops chemicals the bacteria make to resist antibiotics.
