It stops bacteria by preventing them from reproducing and repairing themselves.Augmentin (Amoxicillin / Clavulanate) is a combination antibiotic. Amoxicillin kills bacteria and prevents them from reproducing and making their own protective covering. Clavulanate stops chemicals the bacteria make to resist antibiotics.
