Elavil (Amitriptyline) is a tricyclic antidepressant (TCA). Researchers don't know exactly how it works. It may change serotonin and norepinephrine activity in the brain, which regulates mood and pain perception. It also has sedative effects.Viibryd (Vilazodone) is an antidepressant that is both a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) and a serotonin receptor agonist. It treats depression by adjusting the levels of serotonin in your brain.
