Downsides
  • Epzicom (abacavir / lamivudine) isn't recommended if you'll need to adjust the dose of medications due to problems like kidney and/or liver damage.
  • Epzicom (abacavir / lamivudine) can increase your risk of heart attack, especially if you have other heart-related issues such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, or if you smoke.
  • Severe allergic reactions have happened in some patients taking Epzicom (abacavir / lamivudine). Your doctor will test you for any possible risk of reaction before starting Epzicom (abacavir / lamivudine).
  • It might be hard to remember to take Isentress (raltegravir) two times a day. Other similar medicines are once a day.
  • The chewable tablets contain phenylalanine and should be avoided in people who have phenylketonuria.
  • Isentress (raltegravir) cannot be used alone to treat or prevent HIV. It must be used together with other medications.
  • Not available as part of a combination tablet, so you'll have to take more tablets daily compared to other combinations.
