  • The side effects can be extreme: hand tremors, weight gain, memory issues, and others.

  • It controlled my mania alright... But it made my hair fall out!

  • Causes major hair loss, "brain fog," drains your motivation...not worth it, especially the short-acting formula (valproic acid - Depakene). Ironically, it GAVE me migraines, instead of preventing them (one of its purported purposes.)

  • This medication greatly decreased my mania symptoms even on a starter dose. But also on a starter dose I experienced some moderate to severe nausea and even puked once or twice. I also experienced some minor tremors.

  • Amazing for preventing my generalized epilepsy

  • Make sure and stick with the brand you start with. They say generics are identical but unfortunately that is not the case. Works well for managing mania. The "possible" side effect list should be renamed the eventual side effect list. Taking this drug will cause weight gain, hair loss and neurological side effects. I have thus far not experienced the pancreatic or renal side effects. Have been taking it for 18 years.

  • Be aware that if you are getting better, you'll need to lower your dose, and do it as soon as you can. I've been feeling better, but I started to get more sleepy and I could not wake up in the mornings because I couldn't listen to my alarms. Other than that, and the weight gain, it's amazing.
