Downsides

Food
  • Take only once daily, with or without food.
Kidneys and liver
  • People on medication similar to Truvada (emtricitabine / tenofovir) have experienced kidney damage. This worsen if you take high doses of anti-inflammatory drugs called NSAIDs (Motrin/Advil, Aleve, Mobic, Voltaren, etc.). Call your doctor if you develop bone pain, pain in your arms or legs, or pain or weakness in your muscles.
  • Patients on Truvada (emtricitabine / tenofovir) to prevent HIV infection should be tested every 3 months for kidney function, HIV, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
