Upsides

- Adlyxin (lixisenatide) comes as a pre-filled injectable pen that does not require you to measure the dose, so you may find this more convenient than other types of injections.

- Not as likely to cause very low blood sugar as glyburine or insulin.
- Does not increase your appetite like other anti-diabetic medicines.
- Pen is dialed to a single dose for easy injections.
Downsides
- Not good enough by itself if you have really high blood sugars. It needs to be combined with other oral anti-diabetic medicines or insulin.
- Commonly causes upset stomach.
- Can affect how well your birth control pills work. Take 1 hour before or 11 hours after injecting Adlyxin (lixisenatide).
- Oral diabetes medicines work just as well and are cheaper.
- Byetta (Exenatide) must be injected twice a day. Other medicines like it can be injected once daily or even weekly.
- It commonly causes nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, or indigestion.
- Can affect how well your antibiotics and birth control pills work. Take them no sooner than one hour after your injections.
