Treats Parkinson's disease.

Stalevo (carbidopa / levodopa / entacapone) is a good choice for Parkinson's disease, especially when carbidopa/levodopa starts losing its effect.

Upsides
  • There are two different versions of Eldepryl (selegiline), a quick dissolving tablet and a regular tablet.
  • Eldepryl (selegiline) is one of the recommended medicines you can take along with carbidopa/levodopa if your Parkinson's disease is getting worse.
  • It combines three medicines into one pill so you don't have to take so many pills daily.
  • Stalevo (carbidopa / levodopa / entacapone) is available as a generic.
Downsides
  • You may have to limit the amount of cheese, smoked meat, and soy sauce you eat while taking Eldepryl (selegiline) since it can raise your blood pressure.
  • Can keep you up at night if you take it later in the day
  • Doesn't work by itself to treat Parkinson's disease.
  • You would first start by taking Stalevo (carbidopa / levodopa / entacapone) as two different pills, carbidopa/levodopa and entacapone, before you get switched over to Stalevo (carbidopa / levodopa / entacapone).
  • It's less customizable since there are only a few fixed combinations available.
