Relieves nasal allergy symptoms .

Beconase AQ (beclomethasone) is a strong steroidal nasal spray that is very effective at relieving nasal allergy symptoms, but is only available as brand so it may be expensive.

Upsides
  • Available over the counter without a prescription.
  • First-choice medication for treating runny and stuffy noses caused by allergies. It works by reducing inflammation in the nose.
  • Because it's used directly where the inflammation is happening, it has fewer side effects than oral steroids do and has a lower chance of causing withdrawal symptoms once the medication is stopped.
  • Beconase AQ (beclomethasone) is very strong and can be used in children as young as 6 years old.
  • Since it's used directly where the inflammation is happening, Beconase AQ (beclomethasone) has fewer side effects than oral steroids do and has a lower chance of causing withdrawal symptoms once the medication is stopped.
  • Beconase AQ (beclomethasone) doesn't make you drowsy or dizzy unlike other anti-allergy medications.
Downsides
  • Can't be used on as-needed basis. Must be taken every day.
  • Doesn't have a counter on it, so it can be hard to remember how many sprays are left.
  • Since the medicine in Nasacort Aq (Triamcinolone) is a steroid, it can slow down your healing process if you've hurt your nose or had nose surgery.
  • Needs to be primed before use and re-primed if not used for more than 2 weeks.
  • Beconase AQ (beclomethasone) needs to be used daily to work instead of on an as needed basis.
  • Beconase AQ (beclomethasone) doesn't have a dose counter to help you keep track of the number of sprays left in the bottle.
  • Unlike anti-allergy pills, Beconase AQ (beclomethasone) only works on nasal symptoms and not other allergic symptoms such as watery and itchy eyes.
  • May not be a good choice if you've recently had surgery on your nose.
  • Beconase AQ (beclomethasone) is available only as an expensive brand name prescription product.
