Risks and Warnings for Lotronex (alosetron)

    • Higher risk if:
    • Daily doses higher than 1 mg
    • Constipation-predominant irritable bowel syndrome

    Lotronex (alosetron) can cause serious stomach problems such as inflammation, damage to the large intestine (ischemic colitis) and severe constipation that have led to hospitalization and surgery. This usually doesn't happen unless you take more than what is recommended by your doctor. If you have constipation that won't go away, really bad stomach pain or blood in your stools, stop taking Lotronex (alosetron) and let your doctor know right away.

    This is a black box warning. The FDA requires this warning when there is a significant risk of serious or life-threatening effects that anyone taking the drug should consider.
