Risks and Warnings for Trizivir (abacavir / lamivudine / zidovudine)

    • Higher risk if:
    • Previous allergic reaction to Trizivir, Triumeq or abacavir
    • Presence of HLA-B*5701 gene

    The abacavir in Trizivir (abacavir / lamivudine / zidovudine) can cause serious, and sometimes fatal, allergic reactions. Before considering Trizivir (abacavir / lamivudine / zidovudine), your doctor will do a genetic blood test to see if you're likely to have this reaction. If you experience any rash, fever, nausea, flu-like symptoms, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pains, shortness of breath, and/or difficulty breathing, stop taking Trizivir (abacavir / lamivudine / zidovudine) and call your doctor or go to the emergency room right away.

    This is a black box warning. The FDA requires this warning when there is a significant risk of serious or life-threatening effects that anyone taking the drug should consider.
