    • Using contrast dye for procedures

    • Alcohol use
    • Age 65 and older

    Xigduo XR (dapagliflozin / metformin extended release) can cause rare but life-threatening condition called lactic acidosis. This is a medical emergency and you should get help right away. Symptoms include deep and rapid breathing, nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain. It may not be a good choice for people with kidney problems. Xigduo XR (dapagliflozin / metformin extended release) should be stopped 48 hours before and/or after surgery or any imaging procedure needing contrast dye. Your doctor will have to do blood work to test your kidneys and liver before you start taking Xigduo XR (dapagliflozin / metformin extended release).

    This is a black box warning. The FDA requires this warning when there is a significant risk of serious or life-threatening effects that anyone taking the drug should consider.
